PARTY - 4th of July 2020 - Pork Roast Extravaganza - PORCHETTA!
Music. Food. Hard Cider.
If you have a pig farm, a spit, a in-house chef, a in-house musician and your good friend make a killer cider ... you owe it to your community to throw a heck of a party for the 4th of July. AND SO WE ARE. The party is open to the first 60 people that purchase a ticket.
This is a different event from the lunches or dinners we host at the farm. It will be a lot less formal (no sitting at he table course after course), and while we will have tables and seatings available inside, we encourage everyone to bring blankets and chairs to sit on the loan by the band or around the pork spit. We are trying to finish building our outside fire oven (we started last june and built the base in stones harvested from our land - panton stones. This year we are doing the actual oven using clay from our land). IF the oven is ready... there will be amazing goodies coming out of there - I can promise you that!
FOOD. Porchetta: this is the italian way to make a pork roast. We take a whole pig, debone it, fill it with local herbs salt and some garlic, roll it so that the belly wrap around everything and make a huge roll of meat, and then cook it. Why we do it that way? This way every piece of meat is cooked evenly because it is all at the same distance from the fire. Also, the belly, which is the fattest part, wraps around the entire roll keeping everything moist and juicy. Will there be a head? Yes, the head will be on the spit, attached to the whole pig. We do not waste any part of the animal and the cheeks make some fo the best meat on the spit.
Only pork? NOOOOOO how could you think that! We will have bruschette, summer rice salad, greens, pizzette, and of course fruits and desserts. And more.
TIME: The event will start at 12. Food will be available starting at 11 but the porchetta probably will take a little bit longer (1pm). Guests can arrive at any time they please, but be aware that if you arrive after 2pm ... there will be less food.
LOCATION: at our farm 2674 Jersey St. Panton VT 05491. If you use Apple Map you will go to a very different farm down the street from us. We are at the crossing between Button Bay rd and Jersey st, in Panton. Follow the parking signs and look out for someone with a yellow jackets that will instruct you were to park.
FARM TOUR. Please do not adventure in the barn or in the far fields alone. We will have farm tours every 30 minutes (they last about 20 minutes). There will be too many people and animals to let you wonder around the barn or the farm on your own like we usually do so please wait for your guide. You can meet your guide by the sign under the tree where the time for the tours are posted.
FAMILIES. Do you need a more comfortable bathroom to change your little one, or would you like a more private place to breastfeed and relax with your little one who is overstimulated and wants to fall asleep? Not a problem. We have a special place for you inside the farm house. Just ask us. We do ask that all parents keep an eye on their children. You do not need to have them on a leash but please know where they are and what they are doing and do ask them to follow instructions that any of the farm staff may give them. Our goal is to have you and your family have a pleasant and safe experience.
DRINKS: Shacksbury Cider will be here to serve and sell their hard ciders so bring cash to buy it directly from them. We will have cold water and ice tea. This is not a BYOB.
BRING: a blanket or chairs to sit on the loan. a refillable cup. Friends. Kids. Farm friendly games for kids (e.g., not fire works). Cash for drinks (ID card if you are under 30). Desire to have fun. A designated driver. An empty belly. A cooler if you want to purchase some of our meat from the farm stand.
WHAT NOT TO BRING: beverages, fireworks, and pets. Sorry but there are too many free roaming farm animals and we do not want to risk a sheep or a pig getting scared, breaking loose and ruining the party.
WHAT TO DO TO PREPARE: Buy a ticket online. Tell all your friends to join you. Like the event on our Fb page and Instagram (AgricolaVT)
