We are doing things a bit different here; we call it Chicken Like It Used To Be. We are refusing to raise Cornish Cross or French Ranger chickens because these are genetically modified chickens. These chickens grow so fast that if you do not harvest them at 6 weeks they start having heart attacks and their bones start breaking under the massive amount of weight they are designed to put on. We call them franken-chickens. Our chickens have much smaller breasts than the franken-chickens you are used to see but their legs and wings are nicely developed and the taste is quite flavorful. It takes us 5 months to raise them for market. They are avid foragers and hunters - although there are individual differences so the most adventurous chickens may have more flavor than lazy ones. After all, individual differences are an aspect of nature. Although, we do try to curve that and always select the best hunters and more adventurous ones as breeders for the following years so hopefully, slowly, we naturally cull out what we call the Homer Sympson genetics. All our chickens are born on the farm, most are raised by a hen and all live a happy free life roaming around. Try one and tell us what you think! You can learn more about our chicken here.

WHOLE HERITAGE DUCKS
Free pastured and ponded ducks who grow up on a local rice farm for most of their lives. Ducks are born on our farm, grow up on our pastures and then we do the harvesting. We supplement their feed with our little worm farm we created to increase our self sustainability and they also love to chump on the expired grapes that we get from the local supermarket.
$9 / lb Ducks vary in size between 4 and 6 Lbs. Ducks are available September to February. We start our duck waiting list in July - send us an email if you want to be on the duck list. |
